Professional Experience

Andrea Heslin Smiley joined VMS in July 2008 to lead its strategic marketing and brand development business groups. Today, she leads one of the fastest growing companies in Indiana guiding a staff of more than 100 professionals and providing strategic counsel to a roster of Fortune 500 clients.

Prior to VMS, Andrea spent 18 years in the pharmaceutical industry leading multiple Business Units in the development and execution of biotech, device and pharmaceutical product strategies to drive sales, increase market share and improve patient care.

In her Business Unit Leader roles, Andrea managed over $1 billion product portfolios with full P & L responsibilities. Her teams were comprised of crossfunctional professionals from marketing, medical, legal, regulatory, finance, business-to-business, and market research as well as specialty & primary care sales forces. Andrea’s diverse biotech and pharmaceutical experiences span a wide range of disease areas and functional roles. She has launched multiple biotech and pharmaceutical drugs and devices, negotiated product labels with the FDA, led the development of Eli Lilly and Company’s first Risk Management Plan, repositioned late-stage products that resulted in increased market share growth, developed and successfully implemented customer-focused sales models, and incorporated< innovative patient education and adherence programs for all the products she managed.

In addition to working directly in the pharmaceutical industry, Andrea was a management consultant with Putnam Associates, a Boston-area firm focused on companies in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and diagnostics businesses.
