Professional Experience

Principal officer and co-founder of VMS BioMarketing, Neal Rothermel provides the vision, passion, and leadership that inspires his company to do what it does best: empower patients. Since starting VMS at age 26 in 1995, Neal’s calling to seek out and understand individual patient needs – and then tailor solutions to meet those needs – has triggered more than 50,000 face-to-face patient training and education programs annually, which have reached more than one million patients and healthcare professionals. Today, the company has expanded to include 90 full-time medical and marketing professionals in Indianapolis, satellite presence in New York and San Diego, and 800-plus contract and full-time Clinical Educators and District Business Managers around the country.

After spending the first years of his career as operations manager for a company producing high-impact medical meetings and large-scale international programs for healthcare clients, Neal’s quest to provide operational excellence in the constantly changing pharmaceutical and healthcare environments built VMS into the biomarketing powerhouse it is today. His understanding of the industry established the foundation for the company’s full-service solutions to Fortune 500 clients in the life science industries. VMS has evolved into a trusted, strategic partner providing renowned healthcare training, patient adherence programs, and marketing solutions for major healthcare and pharmaceutical brands. Its comprehensive patient support programs are designed to make specialty treatments easier to understand and simpler to use. Key services include strategy development, live and virtual education and training programs, and ongoing adherence support tailored to sustain empowerment.

As a leader in biomarketing services, Neal equips the company and its clients with cutting edge technology that allows for flawlessly executed programs. He provides a setting and environment that systematically cultivates ideas and innovation, fearlessly tests new concepts, and actively celebrates success. His focus on developing an organic corporate culture that nurtures the entrepreneurial spirit of each employee has been instrumental in attracting and retaining a well-seasoned, educated staff recognized as industry experts in the field of healthcare education, patient adherence, outreach, strategic meetings management, compliance, and marketing. VMS is a three-time Inc. 500 fastest growing private company in America, Fortune 500 pharmaceutical client “Global Supplier of the Year,” and a five-time Best Place to Work in Indiana.

Neal completed the Birthing of Giants three-year executive entrepreneurship program at MIT, was an Indianapolis Business Journal “40 under 40,” and an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year finalist.
